  • Sports journalist Aliaksandr Ivulin sentenced to 2 years in prison

    On January 19, the Savetski District Court of Minsk ruled in a criminal case against well-known journalist and Krumkachy football player Aliaksandr Ivulin.

    Judge Siarhei Shat­si­la presided in the tri­al.

    Ivulin was giv­en 2 years of impris­on­ment. He was found guilty of “orga­niz­ing and prepar­ing actions that gross­ly dis­rupt pub­lic order, or active par­tic­i­pa­tion in them” (Part 1 of Arti­cle 342 of the Crim­i­nal Code).

    Ali­ak­san­dr was detained on June 3 last year in his apart­ment. He served 30 days of admin­is­tra­tive arrest and lat­er became a defen­dant in a crim­i­nal case. The pros­e­cu­tor demand­ed that the court sen­tence Ivulin to 2 years in prison.

    Min­sk­trans (munic­i­pal pub­lic trans­port com­pa­ny) sued Ali­ak­san­dr Ivulin for 39,000 rubles (13,260 EUR) for alleged dam­ages for stop­ping traf­fic dur­ing the protests.

    Ivulin did not plead guilty and said that he did not block the roads, much less orga­nize any actions.
