Prosecutor General’s Office opens six criminal cases against Siarhei Dubavets, an RFE/RL employee
As reported by Nasha Niva, he is accused of violating the law on countering extremism, preventing the rehabilitation of Nazism, and denying the genocide of the Belarusian people.
According to the case materials, Siarhei Dubavets disseminated false and destructive information about the political, economic, social, military, and international situation of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the legal status of its citizens in his public statements on the author’s blog.
The journalist has discredited the Republic of Belarus, state power and administration, incited social enmity and hostility based on social group membership, discussed the head of state, participated in extremist formations, and engaged in activities aimed at rehabilitating Nazism.
Additionally, he has denied the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and post-war period, and taken purposeful actions to rehabilitate Nazism.
Born in 1959 in Minsk, Siarhei Dubavets participated in the national revival movement in the 1980s. From 1991 to 2000, he served as the first editor of the revived Nasha Niva publication.
