  • Press Conference Introduces Adami Media Prize

The ADAMI Media Prize aims to increase media interest in the promotion of cultural diversity and to encourage networking amongst programme managers and filmmakers in Eastern Europe.

The introductory press conference of Adami Media Prize was held on September 21 in the office of BAJ in Minsk. The coordinator Salome Kikaleishvili described the aims and terms of the contest. The competition was launched on September 1, submission of works continues until October 25. Audivisual journalists, filmmakers, producers are encouraged  to submit their works that were broadcast between September 1, 2013 and October 25, 2015. The topics for the competition are migration, integration, and cultural diversity. The full procedure of registration for the contest can be found here.

The contest is aimed at creators from EaP countries — Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Belarus.

There are six nominations: fiction movie, documentary, news, short documentaries, youth movies, online multimedia, Internet video.

The jury will choose winners in November, and the awarding ceremony is to be held in Tbilisi on December 10.

The idea of the prize belongs to German NGOs and lists a number of partners; key partners are German Civis Media Foundation and the European Broadcasting Union.

At the press conference, the Ambassador of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar outlined several features of the Adami contest: it is a common contribution into the EaP initiative; the prize aims to establish cooperation between journalists of the six countries, and more contacts in human dimension.

Jim Couzens, who has recently started work with the EU Delegation to Belarus, remarked that he was aware of the difficult conditions of work for journalists in Belarus.  He thinks that the project is important for Belarus as a means to join the public space of Europe.

“It is hard to think of a more timely initiative,» said Mikhas Yanchuk, representative of Belsat in Belarus, member of the Board of BAJ. «Now we are faced with  serious trials to European values since the collapse of the USSR… The EaP countries made use of the possibilties in a very different way… Now, we can talk that it is 50 per cent effective: three countries were activized and follow the civilized world. And I hope that such projects as Adami will help awaken the other three.»

Also, singer Rusia showed their project Shuma and spoke a little about how values of minorities start to build in into the global world.
