November 1: Journalists Detained, Some Beaten
On November 1, protesters marched to Kurapaty, where victims of Stalinist repression were executed and buried. On the way to Kurapaty, the riot police dispersed the crowd many times. Many were arrested, journalists among them.
Three journalists of Novy Chas newspaper were detained.
Photographer Dzmitry Dzmitryeu was severely beaten during detention. He managed to call his wife and tell her that the Interior Ministry spokeswoman Volha Chamadanava said they would deal with him under general conditions, despite the fact that he was a journalist.
Dzmitry Dzmitryeu is an inhouse reporter of Novy Chas. He had a press badge and all press certificates with him. Dzmitry was charged under two protocols — 23.34 (participation in an unsanctioned event) and 23.4 (disobedience to lawful demands of an official).
Freelance journalists of Novy Chas Alexander Ziankovich and Yana Trusila were detained and taken to Kastrychnitski district police department of Minsk.
The police also detained cameraman Zmitser Soltan. The police beat him and took his camera and phone. Soltan was taken to Kastrychnitski district police department.
In the evening, an underage activist released from the same police department, said: Belsat cameraman Zmitser Soltan was beaten during detention, beaten in the police bus, and then beaten with his camera on the head. The camera is smashed.» When Zmitser is released, he will tell us his story in details.
Also in the evening, BAJ learned about another freelancer working for Belsat cameraman Zmitser Krauchuk, who was also detained and kept in Kastrychnitski district police department. His family does not know anything about the circumstances of his detention.
Most probably, Dzmitry Dzmitryeu, Alexander Ziankovich, Yana Trusila, Zmitser Soltan and Zmitser Krauchuk will remain in custody until trials.

Also, at the beginning of the march, the police detained TASS journalist Yuri Shamshur. He was released after a document check.
Journalist Alena Liashkevich, Novy Chas, was detained, too. Again, she was released after they checked her documents.
