Five journalists detained in Belarus on Sunday, September 27
Sunday, 27 September, was the 50th day of protests. People gathered to protest in Minsk and other Belarusian cities. According to the human rights center Viasna, about 360 people were detained. Among them, there were journalists.
In Minsk, at the beginning of the protest march, the police stopped journalists covering the protest to write down their personal data. They claimed that was their way to «register journalists,» supposedly for their own safety. The police warned that if the journalists get in their way, they would be held liable under Article 23.4 of the Administrative Code (disobedience to a lawful request of an official).
In Hrodna the police detained chief editor of Newgrodno.by Ihar Remzik. He was taken to Kastrychnitski police department.
TUT.BY journalists Volha Kamiahina and Katsiaryna Hardzeyeva were also detained, but released later.
In Mahiliou, journalist Uladzimir Laptsevich was detained near Atrium shopping center.
In Minsk, spektr.by cameraman Artur Pahasian was detained.
The journalists who were detained on September 26 in Minsk: Anastasia Alshanskaya (MBK Media), Maria Hryts (has a baby) and Alena Dounarare still held at Akrestsina detention center. They can be held for 72 hours before trial.
