  • Aliaksandr Mantsevich charged with «spreading false information»

    Editor-in-chief of Rehijanalnaja Hazeta, Aliaksandr Mantsevich, is accused of "spreading deliberately false information defaming Belarus and its authorities."

    Accord­ing to the case file, Mant­se­vich, act­ing as chief edi­tor of the news­pa­per, as part of a group of peo­ple, from 1 Jan­u­ary 2020 to 15 March 2023, dis­sem­i­nat­ed false infor­ma­tion in the print­ed edi­tion and its online plat­forms.

    «The arti­cles con­tained inac­cu­rate infor­ma­tion aimed at caus­ing sig­nif­i­cant dam­age to state and pub­lic inter­ests, under­min­ing the author­i­ty of the coun­try and its author­i­ties, caus­ing dam­age to nation­al inter­ests, desta­bi­liz­ing the coun­try, and shap­ing false opin­ions regard­ing the fail­ure to imple­ment cit­i­zen’s rights and free­doms.»

    Mant­se­vich is charged under Art. 369–1 of the Crim­i­nal Code (dis­cred­it­ing the Repub­lic of Belarus).
