Aksana Yuchkavich, a former journalist for catholic.by, detained
According to the Telegram channel Chryscijanskaja Vizija, Aksana Yuchkavich was arrested yesterday.
The reason for the detention is currently unknown. Yuchkavich is a graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at BSU, a Catholic believer, and an activist in the Belarusian scout movement. She has been collaborating with catholic.by for several years. Aksana Yuchkavich is the author of a collection of children’s poems titled Saint Nicholas, Come Visit Us! and has co-organized several cultural projects. One of her notable contributions is the creation of a children’s Christian video show called Angels of the Rainbow.
In addition to her creative pursuits, Yuchkavich has also conducted scientific research in the field of Belarusian philology and taught Polish language courses. The young woman was detained on Forefathers Eve celebration in Kurapaty in 2020 and spent nine days in a detention center for participating in an unauthorized march. She was also arrested in 2010 after the crackdown on the post-election protest in Minsk and sentenced to ten days of administrative detention.
